Gateshead Young Womens Outreach Project were sucessful in an application for a research grant from Childrens Workforce Development Council (CWDC)

This resulted in a group of young women researchers looking at what an excellent intergrated service delivery feels and looks like from a young persons point of view.
The report is focused on the findings of the research project.

The young women then went on to produce a presentation of those findings and are currently presenting to workers from a wide range of agencies.
and are hoping to produce a DVD of the presentation.

The workers of the project were awarded 'Youth Team of the Year' by the 4Children National Children's Stars Awards in June this year and some of the workers were invited to London for an award ceremony.

Jemma Logan, a young woman who is part of the YWP management committee referring to the Award said,

"I think they got the award because they encourage all young women to become confident and independent. They help them with different issues they may need help with, and make young women feel worthwhile and good about themselves.
The team gives lots of reassurance to young women from all backgrounds and offers lots of training and social interaction with others. The Project is unique and I believe the award was well deserved; it's about time that the Young Women's Project was recognised for all of its hard work and achievements."

Many people, particularly women, lack confidence and self-esteem for a vast range of reasons, and this can have a major impact on their lives.

The Young Women's Project offers empowering learning opportunities where skills can be developed and built upon, enabling young women to value themselves and make confident decisions about their lives.

The workers offer support to help the women take full control of their lives and to take an active part in their community. Thus ensuring that provision mirrors the ethos and practice outlined in 'Aiming High for Young People' the Government's 10 year strategy for young people.

Broadly speaking, the Project:
• provides quality work with groups and individuals
• promotes work with young women
• provides accessible training for young women and workers
• promotes family learning through empowering learning opportunities
• offers one-to-one support, information and guidance
• networks, and works in partnership with other agencies and organisations to provide 'joined-up' services
• shares ideas, resources and work methods
• addresses issues that affect young women
• advocates on behalf of young women
• supportively 'signposts' young women to other services when appropriate
• and much more
